Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Keeps the town accounts
  • Invests money (with the approval of the Selectboard)
  • Keeps a record of the taxes voted
  • Pays orders drawn on the town's accounts

Minimum Requirements:

The Town Treasurer is elected by the voters of the Town of Sheldon at the annual town meeting. Nominations and voting are done from the floor.

To be eligible for election, a nominee must be a resident and registered voter of the Town of Sheldon.

If the voters fail to elect a Treasurer at the annual town meeting, the Selectboard shall appoint an eligible person until a subsequent town meeting is held.

Desirable Training and Experience:

Should be very precise, detail oriented and mathematically inclined. Experience dealing with financial accounts is strongly preferred.
